Why our brand is Pastir ("Shepherd")?
This word holds special symbolism and reveals the secret behind our brand. Milk and cheese are the most precious possessions of a shepherd. Shepherds traditionally prepare cheese in their mountain shelters, as it is believed that cheese made in such conditions has the best taste, texture, and color. In their huts, shepherds have the vital task of making cheese, alongside tending to their livestock. Within the strictly male domain of shepherding duties, cheese-making is considered the shepherd's most noble task—creating and nurturing something akin to raising children. The cheeses made by shepherds were often affectionately referred to as their "babies." This deep dedication to cheese-making, akin to raising offspring, gave shepherds the reputation of producing the best cheese in the world. For this reason, we wanted our cheese to be the finest—like shepherd's cheese. And so, the Pastir brand was born, starting with our first product, Pastir kačkavalj (yellow cheese).
